Sam is originally from Michigan where he studied Theology and Pastoral Studies at Grace Christian University. He's a big fan of Star Wars. Like, seriously. His other interests are in writing, reading, film, theater, and music.

Our Beliefs

We believe…
 
That the Bible (God’s Holy Word) is inspired and infallible, both Old and New Testaments – That they are inerrant and that their teaching and authority are absolute, supreme, final and complete. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Galatians 1:11, 12)
 
There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father; God the Son; and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20; John 1:1, 14; Colossians 2:9; Titus 2:13; Acts 5:3-4)
 
In the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead and that He indwells all believers in Jesus Christ. At the time of the believer’s conversion, the Holy Spirit baptizes them into the Body of Christ and seals them unto the Day of Redemption (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:18-20; 2 Corinthians 1:22). He gifts them and empowers them to carry out the Christian Life and mission of reaching the lost (Galatians 2:20; Acts 1:8; John 14:26, 15:12-15).
 
That the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God (Hebrews 1:1-3, 6-8; Philippians 2:6-8), That He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:20-23; Luke 1:34-35).
 
That Jesus accomplished our redemption through His death on the Cross as a complete and substitutionary sacrifice in that He tasted death for every person (Romans 3:25, 5:6-9; 1 Peter 1:18-19).
 
In the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ – that His body was raised from the dead according to the Scriptures, and that He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right hand of God as the believer’s Advocate (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Acts 2:36, 10:42; Colossians 3:1; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25, 9:24; 1 John 2:1-2).
 
That man was created in the image of God but when Adam sinned the human race fell from their sinless position and all mankind has inherited a sinful nature which has alienated us from God. All human beings are born with a sinful nature and are totally depraved in need of a savior from sin (Psalm 51:5; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10-12, 19, 23).
 
In the necessity of the new birth – salvation is by grace through faith and not of works; saving faith will maintain good works in the life of the believer (John 3:17-18; Ephesians 2:8-10; Galatians 2:16). Anyone who receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (John 1:12; Romans 10:9-10) may have assurance of their salvation (John 10:27-29; 17:1-3; 1 John 5:11-13; Romans 5:1-5, 8:35-39; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Ephesians 1:12-14, 4:30; Philippians 1:6; Hebrews 10:12-14).
 
Our Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality: That God has created each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:14). We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, homosexual behavior, fornication, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) as described in Scripture is sinful and offensive to God (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). In order to preserve the function and integrity of our Church Body and to provide a biblical role model to the church’s members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by the Church or serving in any capacity as a volunteer, officer or member agree to abide by this Statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22). It is also to be made known to anyone using the grounds or the church property that any immoral behavior as defined above will not be permitted. We further believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31). Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Mohawk Community Church.
